Nuraging Biotech was founded in 2005 with the objective of researching and developing products focused on antiaging medicine. Our research is focused on developing pharmaceutical preparations as well as Nutraceuticals and Cosmaceuticals.
Sardinia is known as a “healthy aging ” island due to it's high number of centenarians. In fact, Sardinia has the highest prevalence of centenarians in Europe which is thought to be a consequence of multiple environmental and genetic factors. We are committed to understanding these factors in order to develop products that can delay the onset or slow down the progression of chronic degenerative diseases due to aging.
In 2007 Nuraging launched the first three dietary supplements of the Nurax product line. The Nurax products are designed to support healthy aging by contrasting oxidative damage due to aging and chronic disease. They contain Nuragene a proprietary blend of herbal extracts endemic to Sardinia and well-known for their antioxidant properties. Nuragene is the result of our initial research on understanding the pharmacological properties offered by the endemic officinal plants of Sardinia .
Sardinia has more than 220 endemic plants, roughly one quarter of all those found in the entire Mediterranean area. Compare this with the fact that the entire British Isles only has around 40 endemic plants and you get some idea of the scale of the task ahead.
This is why we have established our presence in Sardinia and why we are developing our pharmacological research in this unique natural laboratory, the centenarians' island.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS
Our commitment to develop Anti-Aging products also takes us to another, more ambitious goal, i.e. developing pharmaceutical products aimed at treating degenerative pathological conditions.
The NRA model is based on in-licensing promising pharmaceutical products that have already shown interesting pharmacological properties, continue the basic research up to a pharmacological “proof-of-concept” for therapeutic indications in line with our focus. Complete the pharmaco-toxicological package of information necessary to start the first clinical studies in men, and then out-license the product to a pharmaceutical partner able to properly support the clinical development of the pharmaceutical product.
In parallel, NRA is developing a proprietary Drug Delivery Platform with the aim to reformulate and enhance the bioavailability of drug products already marketed .
