Active Ingredients and their function:

Glucosamine is a form of amino sugar that plays a role in cartilage formation and repair. It is a natural compound that is found in normal healthy cartilage. Glucosamine sulfate is a normal constituent of glycoaminoglycans in cartilage matrix and synovial fluid.

Chondroitin sulfate is part of the bodies natural proteoglycan that gives cartilage elasticity and prevents body enzymes from degrading the building blocks of joint cartilage. Chondroitin was first extracted and purified in the 1960s. Studies have shown that the use of chondroitin and glucosamine can improve the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Curcumin: Curcuma longa root, commonly known as Turmeric is an herb native to India and has been employed in the Ayurvedic healing tradition for centuries. The active ingredients in Curcuma longa are a group of plant substances called curcuminoids. Curcumin is the principal curcuminoid found in turmeric, and is considered its most active constituent. Curcuminoids have demonstrated potent antioxidant properties and benefit joints by helping to neutralize free-radicals and thereby reduce inflammation.

Studies have also shown that curcumin inhibits the production of lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), two enzymes that are involved in promoting and maintaining inflammation in the body.
